Water is fundamental to all our existence and future survival. Water makes up to 2/3 of our bodies composition. 71% of the surface of planet Earth is covered with water and yet 1.3 billion people do not have access to safe drinking water! Every day an incredible 23,000 people die from the use of unsafe water. In India alone, over 170 million lack adequate sanitation. Sadly, as a result, 600,000 children under 5 die from diarrhoeal diseases every year.
These are hard facts, and the staggering numbers of human beings involved are difficult to comprehend in this day and age. All the more so in a country where we have the luxury of flushing away one third of all our piped water supply; where, we complain about the taste of our water, yet it is safe and available at the turn of the tap; where, in addition to having safe water freely available, we can afford to spend £700m a year on 1.5 billion liters of bottled water.
Now is your opportunity to help in the establishment of clean water supplies everywhere. One of the our priority projects is to make available new water facilities in rural areas.Your donation can help to establish this and other safe water projects we will be targeting in Asia and other continents.
The Aurora Children's Village near Galle, Sri Lanka
The Aurora Children's Village was founded in 2004 by a Kentish couple who witnessed the Tsunami hit East Asia and felt an urgent need to help. Months after the disaster, aid was still not reaching key areas and the Linch's decided that they would help by building a complete new village for the locals who had lost their families, especially children. A complete account of their story so far, widely covered by local media as well as the BBC, is available at our Tibet Culture Trust shop in Bournemouth.
